The Arizona Diamondbacks have decided to pick up the 2010 option on reliever Jon Rauch. Rauch was acquired from the Washington Nationals late in the season for Emilio Bonifacio. The D-Backs perhaps felt obligated to keep him as they gave up the young player who was supposed to become the club’s next second baseman.
Rauch was nothing short of awful last season when the D-Backs needed him the most. Rauch was 0-6 with an ERA of 6.56 in 26 appearances for the Snakes.
Rauch is fairly cheap at $2.9 million for 2010 and might receive interest from other teams. It is yet to be determined if John has worn out his welcome in Arizona.
